Microsoft and Sony reach an agreement on the game "Call of Duty"
“We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and Sony have signed a binding agreement to archive Call of Duty games on PlayStation devices following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and we look forward to a future where gamers have more opportunities to play their favorite games,” said Phil Spencer, Microsoft's director of games, in a tweet on Twitter.
The announcement comes after Microsoft successfully secured a court order lifting the state of emergency requested by the US Federal Trade Commission over its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, whose most famous game is Duty's "Call" series. The deal will also help Microsoft convince regulators to approve the deal.
A few months ago, Microsoft announced the acquisition of popular game publisher Activision Blizzard. This is the largest deal in its class, valued at $69 billion, but has so far not been able to finalize the deal due to opposition from regulators in the US and UK, saying Microsoft may be working on making Activision games exclusive to its Xbox and could block access to competing platforms.
Microsoft CEO Brad Smith commented on the new agreement with Sony, "We have been committed to addressing the concerns of regulators, platform and game developers, and consumers from day one of the acquisition process and beyond." The two companies didn't provide any details about the deal or its duration, knowing that Microsoft last year offered Sony a binding 10-year deal to host Call of Duty games on current and future PlayStation devices .
