Intel 14th Gen leak suggests modest generational improvements

MSI's leaked training video has revealed information about upcoming 14th Gen Intel Core processors. The video has since been redacted, but relevant information has already been identified and shared.

The corresponding slide in the video compares the current Intel models Core i3-13600K, Core i7-13700K and Core i9-13900K with the next-generation Core i3-14600K, Core i7-14700K and Core i9-14900K models. While the i3 and i9 models retain the basic equipment, the i7 model has four additional electronics cores.

According to MSI, this represents a 17 percent improvement in average performance over the i7 in multithreaded applications.Elsewhere, however, the situation is far less impressive, with more or less noticing a slight movement of the watch.

According to MSI, this will result in an average performance increase of around 3% over the previous generation. These numbers are consistent with previously published benchmark results.

The reason for this is now well known as the 14th Gen Intel CPU, also known as the Raptor Lake-S Refresh, is simply the 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S architecture with higher clock speeds and in some cases it is also about the number of e-cores and caches.

On the bright side, the 14th Gen chips will be compatible with current motherboards with 600 and 700 series chipsets that support existing 12th and 13th Gen components. Although not mentioned in the MSI leak, the new parts should probably also feature the new Intel branding, calling these parts Core 5, Core 7 and Core 9, thus avoiding the current "i". Intel is expected to unveil these new parts in September 2023 at what is ironically dubbed "Innovation 2023."
